about 'maggie'

Two thirds of Magnetic Island is National Park featuring huge stands of eucalyptus trees and abundant wildlife, including koalas, wallabies and varied bird life. There are 23 beaches and bays some of which are readily accessible, and nearly 25km of walking tracks.

Activities include sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, diving, jetski tours, fishing and boating tours with day tours to the outer reef also available.

Buses and taxi's meet every ferry, and service all the major bays (Arcadia, Horseshoe Bay, Nelly Bay and Picnic Bay). Cars, scooters and bicycles are also available for hire.

enjoy the BUSH & reef

You can do an accredited diving course or just hire a snorkel and fins to explore the inner reefs at Geoffrey, Arthur and Florence Bays. We have three sets of snorkeling gear plus two fishing rods and a tackle box available for guest use. There are two snorkel trails (Geoffrey Bay and Nelly Bay), each of which offer a different snorkeling experience.

You may be visiting for a yoga retreat, a wedding, one of the many sports events, or just for a holiday. From bush walks to stone hopping and shipwreck hunting, if you want to find out what else you can do on Magnetic Island, (including activities, tours, events, festivals, services and facilities plus handy hints for visitors), visit  WhatsOnMagneticIsland.com.au - there's also a handy 'Top Things To Do On Maggie' to download if you need more ideas!

Entertainment & dining

Wednesday night there's the world famous Toad Races at Arcadia Village Hotel. Stage Door Theatre Restaurant has a fabulously funny comedy cabaret on Friday and Saturday nights.

Visit the Friday Night Markets just down the road at the RSL Hall or the Wednesday and Friday Markets at the the Arcadia Village Hotel. The Horseshoe Bay weekend markets are great for local arts and crafts and food stalls. (The RSL also has a Sunday roast and quiz night). There are also many annual sporting and cultural events throughout the year.

There is a great range of restaurants on the island. Book a table at  Barefoot Art Food & Wine at Horseshoe Bay to watch the amazing sunsets and view the work of the local artists, or head to Mamma Roma in Picnic Bay for live music and a spectacular spot on the foreshore with the lights of Townsville in the distance.
